The MOU was signed by the Director-General of Taiwan’s National Fire Agency and CEO Puamau Sowane of Fiji National Fire Authority, with Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang personally attending to witness the event. Liu Shih-fang expressed gratitude to representatives from the Asia-Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Cooperation and Development Fund, and the Taiwan Fire Development and Exchange Association.  She emphasized that this collaboration not only enhances Fiji’s firefighting and EMS capabilities but also demonstrates Taiwan’s technical expertise and experience in this area. She looks forward to deepening cooperation between both sides in the future to jointly train professional and reliable firefighters.

Minister Liu pointed out that CEO Puamau Sowane of the Fiji National Fire Authority visited Taiwan last September to observe Taiwan’s " Large-scale Earthquake Mobilization Exercise." He was deeply impressed by Taiwan’s firefighting expertise and expressed a strong willingness to enhance cooperation, leading to the signing of this MOU, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan-Fiji firefighting cooperation.

Additionally, in response to Fiji’s request, Taiwan’s National Fire Agency will provide specialized training for 10 Fijian emergency medical technicians (EMT) from April 22 to 29. The Fijian trainees will undergo rigorous emergency medical training and visit the emergency and trauma center at Changhua Christian Hospital, as well as participate in ambulance field exercises to enhance their emergency medical capabilities.

Director-General Hsiao Huan-chang of the National Fire Agency stated that Taiwan has accumulated extensive experience in firefighting and emergency medical services. Through this collaboration, Taiwan hopes to assist Fiji in enhancing its firefighting and EMS technologies.
